In 2013, we began a women’s Bible study just outside of the dump in Ciudad Sandino.  Over 100 women would come every week to share in hearing God’s Word.  As we would enter and leave, we would encounter trash trucks filled with trash heading to the dump with children on top of them digging through the trash hoping to be able to sort out the better parts of the trash before it was dumped.  They would do this all day. 

The Center of Hope was built in the October of 2013 specifically to try to reach these children.  We would serve them a plate of food for lunch in-between their time on the trash trucks. Often plates would be left half-eaten as they would hear a truck coming rumbling in the background.  We would set it aside for when they returned.
