Abstinence Program
When we first began serving in the dump community, we found that most girls over the age of 11 and 12 were either already pregnant, with child or with an older man. After talking with their mothers, we found that their dreams as young girls were to simply pass 5th grade or to learn to read. The Program of Hope was designed to help their daughters achieve their mother’s dreams.
The girls are selected to attend a weekend at Hope Central called Princess’ of God. The girls join 30 other girls from around Nicaragua and spend a weekend focusing on who they are in Christ. They are reminded of their true value and worth. Many are hearing this for the very first time. They then join our Program of Hope girls during the week for Bible Classes, English Classes and jewelry making. The jewelry is then sold to the teams which affords them money weekly to share with their families which allows them to stay in school.
Today, we have had over 15 girls complete the program with currently 30 girls involved changing generations to come!
